Taken

May 15th, 2009

So we watched this movie called “Taken” last night.  It stars Liam Neeson and Shannon from LOST, I don’t know her name.  Anyway, it’s a pretty Jason Bourne kind of movie with international baddies, butt kicking, but more than that, it has a very serious issue in the plot line.  Liam’s character in the story has a daughter that gets taken in Paris and being sold into sexual slavery.  Liam is on the hunt to find her and kill anyone involved that stands in his way.   I recommend the movie for anyone who isn’t afraid to be offended, and has the slightest interest of seeing a hollywood movie that leaves you feeling heavy for humanity.

Granted, there’s violence, a birdy is flipped, and the subject matter is offensive, but for what it is, it is a rude awakening to a reality that is so very present.  Each year, an estimated 600,000-800,000 men, women, and children are trafficked across international borders (some international and non-governmental organizations place the number far higher), and the trade is growing. This figure is in addition to a far larger yet indeterminate number of people trafficked within countries. Victims are forced into prostitution, or to work in quarries and sweatshops, on farms, as domestics, as child soldiers, and in many forms of involuntary servitude.

There’s organized child prostitution in the states too.   There are currently an estimated 300,000 children under the age of 16 working as prostitutes in  america.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.  Wow.  James couldn’t have said it any clearer.   I hope this journal can spark a desire for you to educate yourself of this current situation.  Then after that, doing something about it.  Please, friends… these people aren’t captives of themselves, but rather from others who keep them under their decisions and lusts.

Oh k. Thats crazy. 300 000 children in the US?! Thats disturbing to say the least. I never wouldve guessed near that much. This world needs help… Or more importantly, it needs to accept the rescue that has already taken place. I’ll have to check out that movie.

“Taken” is a great movie that gives a small insight into what human trafficking (more specifically sex trafficking) is. Worldwide, human trafficking is a 32 billion dollar industry and is the second most profitable crime. The common mistake made about human trafficking is in believing slavery only happens in other countries. The reality is: slavery happens EVERYDAY in the United States. The best way to combat trafficking is to be proactive by educating yourself and others (like Jeff said). Knowledge is power and YOU can make a difference in the lives of these oppressed adults and children. To add to the already mentioned websites:

For anyone who lives in Ohio, there is a rehabilitation shelter being built in Logan County. The Christian-based shelter, called Gracehaven (www.gracehavenhouse.org), will focus on providing minors who are victims of domestic sex trafficking with the counseling and schooling they need to re-enter the world as survivors. A fundraising walk is going to be held June 6th in Columbus. Please check out their website if you want to learn more or donate to the organization!

Hi! Congrats on your award! I love your guys’ music and I know God’s really blessed you and others through His work in all of you. So, I was watchin Joyce Meyers’ tv show and she’s always showing videos on the conditions in other countries, but that day, I actually paid attention more than usual. Well, since it was on human trafficking, God was sort of moving me and saying, “Why aren’t you doing anything?”. So today, I was doing more research on the subject and on dosomething, org, they suggested holding a benefit concert. Right off I thought of you guys because your music has helped me so much with my Christian life and I was just wondering, if I can actually get everything going, if you guys would be interested in playing. I know it’s a lot to ask and you don’t even know me and I’ve never even done anything like this before, but if God wants it to happen then something will happen. Well, hopefully i’ll hear from you and, again, thanks for all that you allow God to do through you!

That’s sooo sad that so many people would do that kind of thing, but we can always pray that God will somehow get a hold of their lives. I know God can do He did that for my aunt, no she wasn’t a prostitute but she did think she needed a man at all times in her life. That only worked for about half a month then she went back to her old way of life. I’m still praying for her but she only calls us if she needs something from us so please pray with me that God will rock her world somehow and get her to truly and utterly love him.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. This is all over, literally. There’s more than just the sex trade in the US, and then you look at another country like India. In India children are scarce. Mostly because they are gone.

We can make a change, with His help. :)

    hi Jeff..

I’ve watched that movie a couple of weeks ago…and it flood me to tears, especially on the scene her daughter was “taken” while his dad hears everything that’s happening and of course the ending wherein the daughter said “You came for me”(”,) it’s like GOD, He has done everything to save us.

well anyway, you guys rock!! I’m so blessed with your songs.Keep on!

Thanks for the music you all share, and that you do your best to use your influence to help open the eyes of the people of God to see the truth in our world and encourage us to do something (with the Word.)

May many of the youth today be preparing for the battles that lie ahead: “And they overcame him (satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Rev. 12:11

I think your music is so annointed, not sure what prompted you to write Hold my Heart, but it is right where I am, please pray for me and my family-my 12 and 15 yr old want to go live with their unsaved dad and it is ripping my heart apart–your words are right where I am-unable to stand asking God to see me. Thanks for using your gifts for the Lord

This was a really great movie. Opened my eyes a bit to realize that this kind of thing happens all the time.
Thanks for your great music! Your song, By Your Side has helped me through a couple difficult times. It is one of the most listened to songs on my computer!

Jeff

I'm excited to fill this journal with literary compositions, artistic trials, and an echelon of ideology. Several thoughts have filled my head on what to put exactly on here. I thought about applying some form on nonsense lesson in each journal. Quite frankly, I don't know how this will all turn out...

But Like Mrs. Who said in A Wrinkle In Time:

"The more a man knows, the less he talks."
